Rep. Jordan to Newsmax: Shut Down Processing of Migrants

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Newsmax on Monday the best move to fix the crisis at the U.S. southern border is to stop using money to process and release into the country any new migrants for the rest of President Joe Biden's term.

Jordan, appearing on "Eric Bolling The Balance" with Rep. Kelly Armstrong, R-N.D., said the border security bill produced in the Senate doesn't go far enough to fix the border crisis, and the next best thing would be to just shut down the border.

"We need to say no money on the border situation in our country," Jordan said. "No money can be used to process or release into the country any new migrants. Simply say, timeout on the border. That's where we need to focus our efforts.

"As the body that controls the purse strings, that's where we need to focus to actually secure our border. Short of that. We're going to have to wait for President [Donald] Trump to get back in the White House to fix this problem."

Armstrong said the House in May passed the Secure the Border Act, which, among other things, would immediately restart construction of the border wall, provide border enforcement agencies the manpower, technology and infrastructure they need to do their jobs, and end the exploitation of unaccompanied alien children at the hands of criminal cartels.

"We passed a bill that would have shut down the border in May, and instead of taking that up, working on their own bill immediately, they waited until it was completely politically untenable," Armstrong said. "And now they send the bill back to us and act like that's the starting of the negotiating point.

"This administration has the ability to do this right now. They just choose not to. A big part of our bill was forcing them to do what they could already do. And we sent them a bill that would shut down the border, and to act like this is the only this is the only avenue forward is just quite simply not true."

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Monday warned that if Republicans don't help pass the Senate border bill, which includes $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, U.S. troops will eventually be fighting Russia in Eastern Europe.

Armstrong said that's the least of his worries.

"I just welcomed home a National Guard troop to North Dakota who spent 13 months at the southern border because of this administration's failed policies," he said. "My constituents want to stop fentanyl in the streets of Grand Forks and Bismarck and the communities there.

"To make that argument at this point in time, when nobody has given us what the clear objective is over [in Ukraine] other than to help the military industrial complex is absolutely ridiculous."
