Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, told Newsmax on Wednesday that following President-elect Donald Trump's election, the Department of Justice will likely end its prosecution of Trump.

"My gut tells me," Jordan told "The Record With Greta Van Susteren," that the state cases "go away as well."

"I actually think the Democrats way overplayed this. This political prosecution, I think, backfired on the Democrats.

"And I go to one of the turning points, I think was two years ago when ... Jack Smith, the FBI, raided President Trump's home. And all of us, I think so many Americans took this like, What is going on? This is not the kind of thing that's supposed to happen in the greatest country ever."

Jordan added that he believed what conservatives call the weaponization of lawfare against Trump "was one of the issues that drove people to vote the way they did yesterday."
