Sen. John Husted, R-Ohio, told Newsmax on Wednesday that in the age of internet and thousands of television stations, America doesn’t "need the government funding" public media like NPR or PBS anymore.
On Monday, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah posted on X, "Free people aren’t forced to pay for state-funded media. Stop making Americans fund leftist propaganda. Defund PBS & NPR." Lee has been calling for Congress to defund the long standing public funded institutions and now with Republicans controlling the executive and legislative branches of government, they might get their chance. Husted said such institutions are a luxury a country so deep in debt can’t afford anymore.
"Well, when you have or trillion-dollar debts and deficits, you got to get rid of the luxuries. And certainly, I don't know how under any circumstance, you couldn't consider PBS to be a luxury at this time when, you know, when I was growing up, there might have been three TV stations and you had your local PBS, but now we've got everything," Husted said during an appearance on "Carl Higbie Frontline."
"We've got sources of information all around the country. People can go get what they need. We certainly don't need the government funding this anymore," Husted added.
