When it comes to securing the southern border, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is "lying," Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey told Newsmax Wednesday.
Following his testimony today in recommending an impeachment of Mayorkas, Bailey told "American Agenda," that the Homeland Security secretary has abandoned his duties.
"He's lying to the Congress, and he's lying to the American public," Bailey said. "We have three lawsuits right now where we put on evidence to demonstrate that he's willfully abdicated responsibility."
Bailey said Mayorkas' approach to immigration law is a misuse of the parole process. He claimed that the process, which is supposed to make case-by-case decisions, has been expanded to effectively create a new visa program without congressional approval.
Bailey also mentioned that Mayorkas has been using what's known as the "circumvention Rule," which he alleges provides legal entry pathways that were previously illegal, again bypassing Congress.
The Missouri attorney general expressed frustration that the Biden administration has not used the allocated funds for building new barriers and completing the southern border wall, as directed by the fiscal year 2020 appropriations. He questioned the request for more resources while existing ones are underutilized, labeling this as a deliberate neglect of duty.
Mayorkas has "refused to spend a dime of that money and yet complains he doesn't have the resources," Bailey said. "Why would he get more resources when he's failing to use what he has now? This is a willful abdication of his responsibility, and I'm proud that Congress is taking action to finally hold him accountable."
