Enrique Tarrio is planning to run for public office in 2026 or 2028, he told Newsmax.
"Last time I was on, I told you that I was going to take some time, and I was going to really think about what I was going to do," Tarrio, the former Proud Boys leader released from prison two weeks ago after being pardoned by President Donald Trump, told Wednesday night's "Greg Kelly Reports."
"I think my future is in politics. I think I'm going to take a serious look at running for office at some point in 2026 or 2028, and I believe that there is a path for that because it is my passion."
He acknowledged there are "a lot of things that need to be aligned" to run for office.
"I am going to take my time with picking what office specifically, what district," he said. "Is it going to be local? Is it going to be at a federal level? I don't know, but I will tell you that I have made a decision."
Meanwhile, he said it has been a "great two weeks" since being released from prison.
"Two weeks ago, I was in prison and just last night I was in Mar-a-Lago at the president's house," Tarrio said, which Kelly said "is so amazing."
Tarrio was sentenced to 22 years in prison in September 2023 on convictions of seditious conspiracy in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, protests at the U.S. Capitol. He was not physically present at the Capitol on that day.
The sentence was cut short with Trump's executive order issuing pardons and commutations to people convicted of a Jan. 6 offense.
Tarrio said he is enjoying his freedom and family.
"Before I left prison, I said, you know what? I'm just going to relax," he told Kelly. "I'm going to kick back, and I'm just going to enjoy my life and I'm going to sit home and just watch movies, you know?
"And that's not that's not what I've done at all. I've hardly slept. I've kind of just jumped back on the horse."
He added he "got closer to God" and "found my faith" while in prison.
"Being in there actually taught me what was important and what's not and my list of priorities kind of shifted," Tarrio said. "I did have country up there almost at the top. And I think that was a mistake.
"I think in order to make America great again, I think that we have to start at home. I think we have to start with our families … I needed to fix my own home before I tried to make America better."
