Americans must quit reelecting these "crazy liberals," including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who cares "more about a little fish than he does about human beings," says Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn.
"Everybody wants to blame the politicians, but they're going to have to start blaming the voters. They just keep electing these people to these positions," Burchett told Newsmax's "Saturday Report."
President-elect Donald Trump earlier this week blamed Newsom and President Joe Biden for the wildfires raging in Los Angeles that have killed at least 11 people destroyed thousands of structures.
"Governor Gavin Newscum refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snow melt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way," Trump wrote in one of several posts on his social media platform, Truth Social.
He added that Newsom "wanted to protect an essentially worthless fish called a smelt, by giving it less water (it didn't work!), but didn't care about the people of California. Now the ultimate price is being paid. I will demand that this incompetent governor allow beautiful, clean, fresh water to FLOW INTO CALIFORNIA! He is the blame for this. On top of it all, no water for fire hydrants, not firefighting planes. A true disaster!"
Burchett said Newsom isn't the only problem and that FEMA needs to be "dismantled."
"We need to figure out a way to send the money to people like Samaritan's Purse and other legitimate organizations that get something done," he told Newsmax.
"I'm sure they'll offer all those wealthy Californians $700 a piece, and that won't go anywhere. So, you've got a massive problem. You have a governor that cares more about a little fish than he does about human beings. And that is the radical nature of California. That's why people are leaving in droves. … It's a multi-layered problem. You got to quit reelecting these crazy liberals. That's the bottom line."
