Lawmakers remain in the air over whether to pass legislation to enact President-elect Donald Trump's agenda through one bill or two, but they held a "productive" discussion while meeting with him in Florida over the weekend, according to Rep. Tom Tiffany on Newsmax Tuesday.

"As you know, the president a few weeks ago signaled that 'hey, let's just do one big, beautiful bill," the Wisconsin Republican, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, told Newsmax's "Wake Up America." "But some of us are still making the case that maybe there should be two bills done here."

By splitting the bills, Tiffany said, Republicans can get an early win during the first few weeks of Trump's administration before tackling the tax portion of the agenda.

"Regardless of which way we go, it was a real productive discussion about making sure that we're not increasing taxes on the American people," said Tiffany. "Let's get regulatory reform in place. Let's get back to energy independence, and let's build the wall and secure America."

Splitting the bill would also allow Congress to deal with Trump's border agenda immediately, as that is his "number one issue," said Tiffany. "I agree with him. If you don't have a border, you do not have a country. So we should get that done first, perhaps get some regulatory reform done in there, and we could put a couple of other things that can get done quite quickly, perhaps by the end of January, early February."

Tiffany also discussed the release of special counsel Jack Smith's report from the investigation into Trump and the Jan. 6, 2021, protests and said he believes the country needs to "move on" from the "lawfare that has been going on."

However, he said there must be "accountability" for Smith and others who have been engaging in the use of the courts to attack Republicans like Trump and others.

"I think Jack Smith would be a very good one to start with, to get accountability," Tiffany said. "Even on their way out, we see all of the people in the Biden administration are just putting every obstacle in front of the new administration to prevent them from hitting the ground running."

The congressman further on Tuesday talked about calls from Republicans to attach conditions on aid to California in connection with the wildfires that have burning there for a week.

"My heart goes out to the people of California that have been harmed in such a way, but this is a man-made disaster," he said. "California is a failed state at this point. We've seen these massive fires for years. Remember, 20% of the sequoias were burned up a few years ago because California refuses to manage their forests properly, and now, they let most of the water that they receive every winter go into the ocean when they could be using it for purposes like this."

California leaders must "get back to proper forest management and water management before we give them more money," he added.

"The taxpayers and the rest of the country should have accountability from California before we give them more money."
