Victoria Toensing, a Department of Justice deputy assistant attorney general in the Ronald Reagan administration, told Newsmax on Wednesday night that President Donald Trump's rights were violated amid a slew of legal proceedings against him during the 2024 presidential campaign.

"It is against the law to conspire to interfere with somebody exercising his constitutional rights," Toensing told "Finnerty." "And there is no doubt that Donald Trump was exercising his constitutional right by running for office.

"And there is absolutely no doubt that four indictments ... and one fake civil fraud case, which resulted in a Democratic judge finding Donald Trump a half a billion [dollars], that's a B billion dollars, interfered with his election."

Toensing was referring to the penalty in a civil business fraud case filed by Democrat New York Attorney General Letitia James. Trump, his sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. and a former executive at the Trump Organization, were ordered by New York Judge Arthur Engoron to pay what as of Jan. 16 now stands at $502 million including interest, according to CBS News. Trump has vehemently denied any wrongdoing and is appealing the verdict.
