The American Civil Liberties Union has launched a multimedia campaign in southern border states aimed at humanizing the plights of illegal migrants in anticipation of President-elect Donald Trump's plan for mass deportations, Axios reported.

The campaign will run video spots in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas on digital sites. One video includes the story of an immigrant mother and her pleas not to return to her village, which is overrun by gangs.

The ACLU's director of border strategies, Jonathan Blazer, told Axios that the campaign seeks to humanize migrants beyond the caricatures painted by politicians.

"There've been falsehoods and lies that are most easily dispelled when you actually meet and hear directly from people about their stories and why they come," he said.
