Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr told Newsmax Wednesday that the multiple complaints filed against the three major broadcast networks "are not frivolous."
Earlier in the day, Carr reinstated the lawsuits against broadcast networks ABC, CBS, and NBC that were dismissed last week by Jessica Rosenworcel, the outgoing Democrat chairwoman of the FCC. The complaints are centered around fair coverage, which broadcast networks are required to follow.
The move means the complaints, filed by the Center of American Rights, a conservative nonprofit, can be adjudicated on their merits.
"They need to be taken seriously. They need to be examined by the FCC," Carr said during an appearance on "Rob Schmitt Tonight."
"But they were just summarily dismissed for what I think are political reasons. So we've now returned them to the same status they were in before that dismissal.
"And we're open for comment. We're going to look at them," he said.
"And what I can tell you is that every single entity here is going to get a fair shake."
Carr, who was just appointed to the chairmanship by President Donald Trump, said that under his leadership, your political leanings will have no bearing on how the government treats you.
"For instance, if your last name was Musk, well, you got millions of dollars of awards revoked unlawfully, in my view, by the FCC. And if your last name was Soros, then you got a quick shortcut to securing the purchase of hundreds of radio stations," he said.
"And under my watch, everyone is getting a fair shake."
