Democrats on Tuesday unveiled their 2025-2026 target map for state legislatures, aiming to counter what they call "MAGA extremism" and strengthen their presence in key battleground states, Breitbart reported.
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee announced its strategy for the next election cycle, outlining states where it plans to focus resources to secure and expand Democratic power in state legislatures.
The committee said its target map identifies critical areas to "strengthen our firewall in state legislatures and counterbalance the MAGA extremism of [President] Donald Trump and the Republican Congress in Washington."
According to Breitbart News, the DLCC is the state-level campaign arm of the Democratic Party.
In May 2022, the group released a memo downplaying expectations for that year's midterm elections.
On Tuesday, the DLCC identified key legislative chambers it plans to "win and defend this cycle," including those in Alaska, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The committee also designated Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, and New Hampshire as "Power Building" states and put Maine on its "Watch List."
"We just launched our 2025-2026 Target Map, pinpointing the state legislatures where Dems must focus our attention & resources to flip chambers blue, strengthen slim majorities, pick up seats, protect Dem gov. veto pens, & block GOP gains," the DLCC posted on X.
Democrats spent over a billion dollars trying to defeat Trump, but he won reelection. As party leaders assess what went wrong, a study published in December found that the Democratic Party is increasingly focused on diversity and elite interests, suggesting it must undergo reforms to reconnect with the average American voter.
