Former Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., was confirmed Tuesday in a bipartisan Senate vote to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs.
According to Senate Cloakroom, operated by Senate Republican Cloakroom staff on X, and C-Span, Collins was approved by a 77-23 vote.
Collins was strongly supported by Senate Republicans who cited his decades of military service, the Daily Caller reported.
"Veterans are a top priority for the Trump administration, just as they were in his first term," Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said on the Senate floor Monday. "To carry out this important mission, President [Donald] Trump has tapped someone with a servant’s heart."
He added that Collins has "comforted wounded soldiers. He’s taken calls from service members contemplating suicide. He understands what it means to serve the veteran."
Collins, who served in the House from 2013 to 2021, is a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
