Protesters gathered in the Black Lives Matter Plaza just a block away from the White House got into two confrontations with police on Tuesday resulting in three arrests, a local NBC affiliate reports.
According to NBC Washington, protests were largely peaceful.
One person was arrested early Tuesday night at 16th and K streets NW for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, according to police.
Two protesters were arrested at 16th and I streets NW following an assault and charges are pending, police said.
A CBS News reporter tweeted that ''people are just fighting.'' She posted a photo of the crowd, which appeared hazy. She wrote it isn’t tear gas, but some sort of smoke bomb and likely not used by police.
Shutdown D.C. and Black Lives Matter planned to hold an eight-hour demonstration on Election Day, according to the Daily Mail.
