Trump to GOP Holdouts: What Are You 'Waiting for,' or 'Trying to Prove?'

President Donald Trump admonished House Republicans for holding out on finalizing the vote to pass the Senate's version of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act after Wednesday midnight into Thursday morning.

"Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy," Trump wrote in a scathing Truth Social post. "What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove???

"MAGA IS NOT HAPPY, AND IT'S COSTING YOU VOTES!!!"

Trump said it is time to give up the opposition and siding with Democrats, who are unilaterally voting no on anti-Trump principle in both the Senate and the House.

"FOR REPUBLICANS, THIS SHOULD BE AN EASY YES VOTE. RIDICULOUS!!!" Trump added in a Truth Social post just before 1 a.m. ET as the procedural vote to head to debate stalled with five no's and eight abstentions.

Hours earlier, Trump had taken a bit of a more optimistic tone.

"The USA is on track to break every record on GROWTH," he wrote on Truth Social. "Go Republicans, beat the Crooked Democrats tonight! PRO-GROWTH Tax Cuts never fail. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

The vote to head to hours of debate before the final vote was stuck at 217-207 with eight abstentions. That vote includes all 212 Democrats voting no, five Republicans voting with them to obstruct Trump, and a group who have yet to vote as they pursue a deal after being unhappy with the amount of Senate changes.

The winning vote will allow just three House Republicans to remain no votes for the OBBB to pass, which now will not happen until the early morning hours Thursday at least.

The House GOP no votes thus far:

  1. Keith Self, R-Texas.
  2. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga.
  3. Victoria Spartz, R-Ind.
  4. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa.
  5. Thomas Massie, R-Ky.

The eight abstentions are largely members of the House Freedom Caucus (HFC) led by Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., who is objecting to the number of Senate-passed changes made to the House version of the OBBB.

There are reports Harris' HFC are planning to vote en bloc once it hammers out a deal with House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and other House GOP leaders, including Steve Scalise, R-La.
