House Republicans are investigating New York Gov. Kathy Hochul for "abuse of federal taxpayer funds," reports the New York Post.

Hochul, according to the lawmakers, allegedly withheld Medicaid funding to plug a billion-dollar hole in the state's budget.

"This fiscal cover-up has forced local governments to increase property taxes and cut local services," House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky.; Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.; Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y.; and Rep. Nick Langworthy, R-N.Y., wrote in a letter to Hochul demanding records about the alleged abuse.

"It is felt most acutely in small and midsized counties like Broome and Erie who do not have the enormous tax base to easily make up for the state's clawbacks," said the GOP lawmakers.

Hochul has until July 16 to turn in records related to the probe.

Hochul's office did not respond to a request for comment.
