Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon on Wednesday said Palestinians should not be forcibly removed from their land, though he backed President Donald Trump's plan to take control of the Gaza Strip.
"I think we all agree that it should require the consent — consent of people to move out from where they live, and the consent for other countries to receive them," Danon said during an appearance on CNN Wednesday.
Trump on Tuesday suggested during a White House news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. take "ownership" in redeveloping the war-torn territory into "the Riviera of the Middle East."
"The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too," Trump said. "We'll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs."
Danon said Palestinians are "doomed to stay where they are" if other proposals don't come forward.
"If Hamas will stay there, it's only a matter of time that we will have to attack Gaza again," he told CNN.
