Vice President Kamala Harris told Hispanic members of Congress Wednesday she believes it's possible to secure the border while also achieving immigration reform.

Harris gave a speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and said she supports a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

"We can do both and we must do both," Harris said.

"As we fight to move our nation forward to a bright future, Donald Trump and his extremist allies will keep trying to pull us backward. We all remember what they did to tear families apart and now they have pledged to carry out the largest deportation, a mass deportation."

Axios reported immigration advocates are hoping Harris' new hawkish policy on the border is temporary.

In her speech, Harris touted the administration's work in helping middle-class families and advocating for abortion rights.

"Today, 40% of Latinas in America live in a state with a Trump abortion ban," she said.

"So imagine if she is a working woman — understand that the majority of women who seek abortion care are mothers — understand what that means for her. So she's got to now travel to another state."

Harris is hoping support from Latino voters will help her win Nevada and Arizona. The Real Clear Politics polling average shows Harris slightly ahead in Nevada and Trump slightly ahead in Arizona.
