Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced over the weekend on X that she is introducing a bill which would criminalize "weather modification."
The Georgia Republican wrote in the post that "I am introducing a bill that prohibits the injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity. It will be a felony offense."
She added that "I have been researching weather modification and working with the legislative counsel for months writing this bill... We must end the dangerous and deadly practice of weather modification and geoengineering."
Although some conspiracy theorists claim that the government is using aircraft to release chemicals or metals into the atmosphere (the white lines aircraft leave behind in the sky), which are used for weather modification and mind control, the Environmental Protection Agency states that these white lines are contrails – condensation trails – that form naturally when hot exhaust from jets meets cold air at high altitudes and pose no risk, Newsweek reported.
In Florida, a new law that came into effect on July 1 makes unapproved cloud seeding and other similar activities a third-degree felony, punishable by up to five years in prison or significantly raised fines of up to $100,000. Greene said she based her proposal on this law.
Atmospheric scientist Matthew Cappucci told Newsweek that "it's not a political statement for me as a Harvard-degreed atmospheric scientist to say that elected representative Marjorie Taylor Green doesn't know what the hell she's talking about. She'd be equally qualified to fly a Boeing-737, practice nuclear medicine or train zebras."
