Former Fulton County, Georgia, special prosecutor Nathan Wade was finally served a subpoena by the House Judiciary Committee to appear for a deposition before the panel, nearly one week after it was signed into effect, according to reports.
The subpoena was for Wade to testify on Capitol Hill on Thursday and House Republicans documented the Marietta, Georgia, attorney as a no-show after he avoided the subpoena for nearly a week, the Washington Examiner reported.
In fact, the committee enlisted the help of the U.S. Marshals Service to locate Wade, but he called to accept the subpoena Thursday, a committee spokesperson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A Republican lawyer told the Examiner that Wade's lack of response to the subpoena for several days was "clearly dilatory."
Details of a new hearing have not been set.
Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, is leading an investigation into Wade's erstwhile romantic relationship with Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis, a fling that was active for part of the time that Wade was also getting paid by Willis' office, to the tune of nearly $700,000 in billing. It's part of a broader probe into Willis' prosecution of former President Donald Trump in Fulton County, one that Republicans assert is politically motivated.
Wade was hired by Willis in 2021 but was forced to resign in March after a judge's ruling that one of them had to leave the case after their former romantic relationship was exposed.
Wade's attorney, Andrew Evans, told the outlet that his client "has nothing that is of interest" to the panel and said the subpoena amounts to "political theater."
