The confirmation hearing for Linda McMahon, President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for education secretary, will likely be delayed until after Inauguration Day, Politico reported.

According to Sen. Bill Cassidy, chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, the delay stems from the transition team's incomplete submission of required documentation.

"It really depends on us getting paperwork," Cassidy explained in an interview with Politico. "Right now, the hold seems to be on their side."

The Office of Government Ethics must review key materials, including financial disclosures and conflict of interest forms, before the committee can proceed.

Historically, timelines for hearings of education secretaries have varied.

Miguel Cardona, the current education secretary, had his hearing on Feb. 3, 2021, just over two weeks after President Joe Biden's inauguration. The hearing for Betsy DeVos, McMahon's predecessor, was Jan. 17, 2017, three days before Trump's inauguration.

Despite the delay, McMahon has initiated the customary process of meeting with key Senate figures. The former head of the Small Business Administration under Trump's first term began discussions with committee members and Senate leadership late last year. Cassidy revealed that he has yet to meet with McMahon in person, though they have spoken briefly by phone.

The Senate HELP Committee has scheduled hearings for next week for several of Trump's national security- and energy-related Cabinet nominees.
