Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., filed a House resolution Tuesday looking to block U.S. involvement in the Middle East conflict between Iran and Israel.
Massie's resolution features numerous Democrat co-sponsors, including progressive legislators like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, D-N.Y.; Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.; and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.
If passed, the resolution would block President Donald Trump from engaging in "unauthorized hostilities" with Iran.
"This is not our war. Even if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our Constitution," Massie wrote on social media.
Other co-sponsors include Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif.; Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va.; Rep. Greg Casar, D-Texas; Rep. Nydia Velázquez, D-N.Y.; Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas; Rep. Jesus Garcia, D-Ill.; Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill.; Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash.; Rep. Summer Lee, D-Pa.; Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass.; and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.
Khanna said this resolution allows Democrats to become the anti-war party again.
"Our leadership should be vocal on this and calling Trump out on this, upholding his promise to be anti-war," Khanna told The Guardian.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., said that while she opposes the United States' involvement in the Israel-Iran conflict, she would not sign onto the resolution.
"We are not attacking Iran. I trust President Trump will deliver his campaign promises and turn this dangerous conflict between Israel and Iran into peace without war," Greene told The Guardian. "If the situation changes, then I may sign on. We'll see what happens."
