President-elect Donald Trump is meeting with TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew on Monday at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, a CNN reporter said on X.
TikTok and China-based parent ByteDance filed an emergency request to Supreme Court justices on Monday for an injunction to halt the looming ban on the social media app used by about 170 million Americans while they appeal a lower court's ruling that upheld the law.
Last week, a U.S. appeals court on Friday rejected an emergency bid by TikTok to temporarily block a law that would require its Chinese parent company ByteDance to divest the short-video app by Jan. 19 or face a ban on the app.
While U.S. officials have questioned the security of Americans' personal data on the Chinese-owned site, TikTok said a ban of the popular app will cost small businesses and social media creators $1.3 billion in revenue and earnings in just one month.
