Former President Donald Trump had planned to make two major announcements at his campaign event in Howell, Michigan, on Tuesday, but held off due to fears that they would get lost in the media shuffle surrounding the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
According to a copy of his planned speech obtained by NOTUS, Trump was set to propose making it a felony nationwide to provide gender-transition care for minors without the permission of their parents or guardians.
"To protect our children from sexual mutilation, we will make it a felony for any medical professional to perform surgery on a minor without parental consent," Trump had reportedly planned to say, according to a post on X from NOTUS reporter Reese Gorman.
The former president was also set to announce on Tuesday that he plans to seek the death penalty for those convicted of sexually abusing children.
"I am announcing today that I will be asking for the DEATH PENALTY for child rapists and child traffickers," Trump's speech read, according to Gorman's post.
But when he delivered the live version of the speech in Howell, Trump didn't say either of those sentences. A source with knowledge of the matter told the Independent that the former president is holding off on those announcements until after the Democrats' convention ends on Thursday.
"President Trump is saving those additional formal announcements until after the DNC when he can make them on a special occasion," the source said. "They're too important to get lost in the shuffle of convention week."
Newsmax has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
Trump's decision to delay comes as he and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, are crisscrossing the country, hitting nearly every battleground state, as they seek to counter the attention generated by the Democratic Party gathering in the Windy City.
According to the Independent, the Trump campaign is hosting a number of smaller events throughout the week where the former president will speak, culminating in an economic-themed event in Las Vegas that both Trump and Vance are slated to attend.
