Backstreet Boys icon AJ McLean will be showing off his dance moves in Season 29 of "Dancing With the Stars" and he is doing it to win. The boy band star confirmed on Thursday that he will be joining the cast, which also features "The Bachelorette" star Kaitlyn Bristowe, and said he had his eyes firmly set on the prize.
"We’re going for the mirrorball, baby!!" the 42-year-old singer wrote in an Instagram post. "I am so grateful to @dancingabc and @abcnetwork for the opportunity to be joining this season’s cast of #DWTS. I also want to thank my wife and my two girls for letting Daddy go on this new adventure. I’m doing it ALL for you! Get ready, BSB Army, this is going to be a wild ride. LET’S DO THIS!!!!!!"
McLean is a dedicated family man and he revealed in an interview with "Good Morning America" on Thursday that his daughters, aged 3 and 7, could not wait to see him perform in "DWTS."
"They are stoked — especially my oldest," he said. "She's been doing competitive dance now for the last two years and my youngest is obviously trying to follow in her big sis' footsteps, so they're both just elated. It's going to be awesome for them to watch daddy cutting a jig on TV."
Fellow band member Nick Carter, who won second place on "DWTS" five years ago, is backing McLean all the way.
"If there's anybody that can get the Mirrorball, it's definitely you," the 40-year-old said in a video message shared with "GMA."
"DWTS" will welcome its first Black female professional dancer, Britt Stewart, to the floor this season and will see supermodel Tyra Banks take over hosting duties from Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.
