Bill Cosby’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was vandalized for the second time on Tuesday, with the words “serial rapist” scrawled across the plaque in black marker, The Los Angeles Times reported.
LAPD officer Mike Lopez said it was not clear when the star was vandalized but authorities were alerted to the defaced plaque at around 5:30 p.m. and have since cleaned it.
In 2014, Cosby’s star was also targeted by vandals, who wrote the words “rapist” in marker across it.
The star, which was presented to Cosby in 1977, was promptly cleaned and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce issued a statement advising that people “unhappy” with its honorees should “project their anger in more positive ways then to vandalize a California State landmark,” CBS News reported.
Cosby has faced ongoing public scrutiny after multiple women alleged he sexually assaulted them decades ago, the Times noted.
Earlier this year he was convicted of drugging and molesting Temple University employee Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004.
The 81-year-old disgraced actor is not the only star to be targeted on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
President Donald Trump’s star has been vandalized on several occasions, most recently with a pick axe.
Michael Jackson was also targeted by vandals who spray painted across a star believed to be his on the Hollywood Walk of Fame recently, but which turned out to belong to another person sharing the name.
The stars belonging to John Lennon, Hugh Hefner and Bob Marley have also been vandalized over the years, CNN reported.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has said it will not remove stars of controversial public figures, the Times noted.
“Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Leron Gubler, former Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president and chief executive, said previously. “Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk."
