Former “Full House” actress Candace Cameron Bure is sparking conversation by saying her faith teaches that wives should be submissive to their husbands.
In interviews promoting her new book “Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose,” Bure offers what she calls biblically based advice to women juggling various demands in their lives.

“The definition I’m using with the word
'submissive' is the biblical definition of that,” Bure told HuffPost Live. “So it is meekness, it is not weakness. It is strength under control. It is bridled strength.”
She added, “It is very difficult to have two heads of authority. It doesn’t work in military, it doesn’t work — I mean, you have one president, you know what I’m saying?”
In an
interview with Fox News, Bure — a devout Christian— talks about her relationship with her husband of 17 years, Russian-born NHL player Valeri Bure, saying she often turns to the Bible for guidance.
“By respecting my husband, and submitting to him as the authority figure in our family — as he should be — my actions have helped to win him over ... submission is not a foul word. I don’t become a slave to my husband's every demand. ... Val doesn’t take advantage of me, but rather gains respect for me. ... This chain of command not only nurtures respect of one another, it also pleases the Lord.”
The sister of actor Kirk Cameron, Bure is probably best known for her role as oldest daughter D.J. Tanner on the show “Full House,” which aired from 1987 to 1995.
In the Fox News interview, the mother of three was asked if her faith would affect what role she would accept as an actress. Specifically, she was asked if she would play a hooker.
“It really depends on the story because I am an actress,” she said. “I don’t want to play myself otherwise I would be a host, so I can’t say I would never play a hooker. It would depend on the story. Is there something redeeming about the character or within the story? Is something going to be taught? If the answer is yes, then absolutely I’ll play a hooker.”
