Former Disney star Christy Carlson Romano has revealed that she was injured after being shot in the face while clay pigeon shooting in Texas with her husband, Brendan Rooney, for his birthday.
The actor, known for her roles in "Even Stevens" and "Kim Possible," said on Instagram that the incident took place Friday, when a person in another group fired in the wrong direction, hitting her in the face.
Romano was rushed to the hospital after her husband assessed her injuries.
"I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye," she wrote. "Unfortunately, a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment)."
Romano added: "With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive. I love my daughters, husband, family and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I'm telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant."
In video accompanying the post, Romano showed where on her face there are still fragments from the shooting. The incident, she said, "was not fun," but she is "safe."
In the comments section, her husband praised her as "the bravest, toughest" woman he had "ever met."
"I am so thankful you are alive. I am so thankful you are the mother to our children. I wouldn’t know what to do without you. I love you more than life itself," he added.
Rooney also wrote about the incident on his own Instagram account.
"My wife gets shot, I ask to take a picture for the record, she flips me the bird and smiles (she nearly lost her eye mind you). When they say there’s no such thing as, 'The One' they lie," he wrote.
"I love you so much and I’m so grateful you’re safe and that you’re going to be okay. I will be by your side forever."
