Gal Gadot in an Elie Saab dress as pictured in an awards show photo has prompted a backlash by some on social media who complained about the Israeli "Wonder Woman" actress wearing a garment from a Lebanese designer.
Gadot recently wore the dress to the National Board of Review Awards in New York, where she and "Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins were given the Spotlight Award for their work on the film, the BBC News reported.
The broadcaster noted that Israel and Lebanon have technically been at war since 1948 and Lebanon current boycotts the country. Gadot served as a soldier with the Israeli Defense Forces for two years, where military service is mandatory, before becoming a Hollywood actress, the Daily Mail reported.
Saab posted the picture on the designer's Instagram account, which was later taken down, the BBC News said. That didn’t prevent or slow complaints on social media.
Others were surprised there would be any controversy.
