Wonder Woman’s armpits are on display for a split second in a trailer for the new film about the Amazonian hero, but the internet's critizens are unhappy again with what they see – or didn't see. And this time we're not talking about Wonder Woman's breasts.
In the trailer, Wonder Woman – played by Gal Gadot – is seen lifting a car and tossing it out of the way. In that moment viewers are able to see Gadot’s armpits, which are shaved.
Now, instead of what's teased in the rest of the movie, it’s Gadot's hairless armpits that have received most of the attention, according to Hello Giggles.
And many on the internet had a problem with them.
Despite the negative responses pertaining to Gadot’s hairless and pale pits, according to
Teen Vogue this isn’t abnormal at all if you look at past portrayals of Wonder Woman.
Women who have played the superhero in the past have had smooth armpits as well, which is evident in a tweet that shows several Wonder Woman characters – both real-life and cartoon depictions.
According to Mashable, this isn’t the first time Gadot has been criticized since taking on the fierce role. She's also been criticized for Wonder Woman's breasts.
But she’s handled the naysayers fairly well.
“It’s just empty talk. I understand that part of what I’m doing means being exposed,” Gadot said. “And part of being exposed is being under fire.”
“When I was younger I would take criticism really hard. But now it mostly amuses me. The true Amazons had one boob so it wouldn’t bother them in their archery,” she added. “So it’s not going to be like real Amazons. We always try to make everyone happy but we can’t.”
Some Internet users might not have been happy with Wonder Woman’s armpits, but there were those on the web who believe the backlash that the portrayal has received is pure nonsense.
