Rep. Richard McCormick told Newsmax while he hasn't received any special briefings on the drones flying over New Jersey, it can't be trusted that the government doesn't know anything about them.
"I'm very suspicious," McCormick told "America Right Now" on Saturday, "that [the White House knows] a little bit more than they're letting on. I haven't had any secret briefing on this, but I remember when the Chinese weather balloon was over America for a long time before we actually even knew it was there, and then trying to figure out where it came from, and then trying to figure out how to capture or shoot it down. This administration has been extremely slow in everything they've done when it reacts to those sort of threats."
On Friday, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby spoke with Fox News about the drone sightings over New Jersey.
When asked about the drones, Kirby said that the Department of Defense "couldn't corroborate every single sighting ... we know people are afraid of it ... we know people have concerns — we have those same concerns."
The schism between tight-lipped politicians and those left in the dark about the drones seems to split along federal and local lines.
On Wednesday, when New Jersey state Rep. Brian Bergen spoke with Newsnation, he said that when he attended a Department of Homeland Security briefing about the drones, he was met with "no answers."
The legislator expressed frustration during the interview, noting that his state has resources to get answers but that DHS showed a lack of interest, concern, or effort in providing them.
