Late-night host Jimmy Fallon was scheduled to appear on a panel at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York on Thursday.

Event organizers surprised many attendees with a last-minute notice, just 30 minutes before the start of the event, indicating they should not expect to see Fallon.

Newsweek reported that the notice was brief, stating, "Unfortunately, Jimmy Fallon is no longer able to attend today's session."

This came less than 24 hours after entertainer Jimmy Kimmel learned that his show on ABC was suspended following backlash over what some — apparently including network leaders — viewed as disparaging comments from Kimmel about the murder of conservative leader Charlie Kirk.

President Donald Trump seized on the development in a Truth Social post, using the opportunity to reference Fallon by his first name and his host network, NBC.

"Great News for America: The ratings-challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even (Stephen) Colbert, if that's possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth (Meyers), two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!!"

Business Insider, reporting on the Fallon incident, quoted an event spokesperson as saying, "In light of recent events, Jimmy couldn't be here."
