RNC Launches Tech-Driven Voter Drive

The Republican National Committee is launching a new social media campaign to get out the vote early ahead of Election Day, Politico reports.

The committee has created a Voter Challenge Facebook app in which Republicans will be urged to pledge their support to GOP candidates by November and then call on three friends to also back the party’s picks in closely-contested elections.

Republicans have set their sights on several tight gubernatorial and House races, while hoping to capture the Senate with a string of incumbent Democrats facing tough reelection campaigns.

RNC spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski shrugged off suggestions that that it was putting a little too much pressure on registered Republicans, telling Politico, “Our voters respond well to that.”

The RNC is also launching several other tech initiatives this week to get voters to turn out early in battleground states, according to Politico.

The committee’s website, Vote.GOP.com, teaches Republicans how to request an absentee ballot and lists polling place locations that are open in the run-up to Election Day.

Republican data experts plan to target potential voters with phone calls, home visits and other efforts to inform potential supporters that they can vote early.

The RNC also plans to use its collection of 12 million email addresses to send targeted messages to voters about their absentee ballot and early voting options, Politico said.
