Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel on Wednesday congratulated former President Donald Trump on ostensibly becoming the presumptive GOP presidential nominee after Nikki Haley left the race.
"Congratulations to President Donald J. Trump on his huge primary victory!" McDaniel, who is leaving her chairmanship, said in a memo shortly after Haley officially announced she was suspending her campaign, Breitbart reported. "I'd also like to congratulate Nikki Haley for running a hard-fought campaign and becoming the first woman to win a Republican presidential primary contest."
She added that Trump, while in office, "delivered a booming economy, secure border, energy independence, and America's strength on the world stage, the exact opposite of the chaos created by Joe Biden."
"Republican voters have spoken loud and clear with historically large margins and we are more united than ever to beat Biden and Democrats up and down the ballot in November," she added.
McDaniel will be leaving her post Friday. Trump has already endorsed RNC general counsel Michael Whatley to chair the RNC and his daughter-in-law Lara Trump as its next co-chair. Chris LaCivita, a top Trump adviser, has been tagged to oversee the RNC's day-to-day operations.
Haley won primary races in Vermont and Washington, D.C., with Trump taking the remainder of the primaries and caucuses to date.
Earlier this year, the RNC reportedly had considered naming Trump the presumptive nominee but held off after Trump advised them not to do so.
Meanwhile, Haley, while giving her withdrawal speech Wednesday, said Trump would likely be named the nominee when the party convention is held and that she congratulates him. She fell short of endorsing him, as other GOP candidates have done when leaving their races.
Trump, in a statement on his Truth Social page, said he had "trounced" Haley in the Super Tuesday primaries but also invited her and her supporters to "join the greatest movement in the history of our nation."
