President-elect Donald Trump said he will sue a major Iowa newspaper for allegedly committing election interference.
While speaking to reporters Monday at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump was asked about defamation lawsuits he either expected to file or which were ongoing.
"I'm doing this not because I want to. I'm doing this because I feel I have an obligation to," he said of the lawsuits.
"I'm going to be bringing one against the people in Iowa, their newspaper, which had a very, very good pollster who got me right all the time, and then just before the election, she said I was going to lose by 3 or 4 points, and it became the biggest story all over the world because I was going to win Iowa by 20 points … the farmers love me, and I love the farmers."
On Truth Social last month, Trump called for an investigation into the Des Moines Register's Ann Selzer for election meddling and "fraud."
Selzer announced she was retiring as the pollster for the famed Iowa Poll after the final survey, just two days before the Nov. 5 general election, showed Vice President Kamala Harris leading by 3 points in the deep-red state that Trump ultimately won by nearly 14 points (56% to 42.7%), roughly a 16-point miss.
"I think you have to … because they're very dishonest," Trump said of the suits. "We need a great media; we need a fair media. It's very important."
The president-elect also mentioned ongoing lawsuits involving "60 Minutes," which edited a Harris interview to show the vice president more favorably, journalist Bob Woodward for misquoting Trump and allegedly selling tapes illegally, and the Pulitzer Prize board.
