On July 24, a Hamas-supporting mob descended on Washington D.C. in what they called a “day of rage” to proclaim their hatred for America, Jews, Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who was in town to address a joint session of Congress.
Shouting “allahu akbar” and carrying Hamas and Palestinian flags, they attempted to breach Capitol police lines, burned the American flag and defaced public property including the Christopher Columbus monument near Union Station with graffiti including, “Hamas is coming.”
Visible in the crowd was a sign threatening, “Allah is gathering all the Zionists for a final solution.”
In his comments to Congress, Netanyahu called the Hamas rioters who glorify rapists and murderers and their fellow travelers “Iran’s useful idiots.”
Indeed, that is true.
A dangerous alliance has developed between left-wing radicals and Islamist fundamentalists. Inhabiting opposite sides of the political spectrum with different visions of a utopian future, these two groups are working together, united by a shared hatred of Jews and the values underpinning Western democracy.
As allies of convenience, their mutual goal is the destruction of America, leader of the capitalist/liberal world, and the extermination of the Jewish state, an outpost of modernity, Western culture and values in the Middle East.
The neo-Marxist Left believes America is racist, exploitative, inequitable and hegemonic, a force for evil. They equate Palestinian terrorists with African Americans, describing them as noble victims of color resisting subjugation by white Jewish oppressors.
Purposefully overlooked is the ironic reality that in Islamist-dominated territories like Gaza, LGBT individuals are mutilated and executed and women are treated like chattel. In his congressional address, Netanyahu remarked, “It’s amazing…. Some of these protesters hold up signs proclaiming ‘Gays for Gaza.’ They might as well hold up signs saying ‘Chickens for KFC.’”
The Left is furious that the Jewish people, a historically oppressed minority, has defied woke dogma to achieve a disproportionately high degree of success in all walks of American life.
Attacks on individual Jews, their businesses and synagogues are now commonplace in America, thanks to the Left’s normalization of antisemitism on our campuses, in our society and in the Democratic Party.
While they virtue signal about “social justice” for oppressed minorities, the Left despises Zionism — the liberation movement of the indigenous Jewish people in their ancient homeland — describing it as a racist totem of white Western colonialism.
They teach our children that democracy is loathsome tyranny, violence is “resistance” and terrorists are victims. It’s no wonder students on campuses across our country reject our Judeo-Christian values to evangelize for jihadism, exclaiming their solidarity with Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and their bestial behavior.
According to a Harvard/Harris poll, 51% of Americans ages 18-24 believe Hamas was justified in its brutal terrorist attacks on innocent Israeli citizens on October 7.
Even as they express disgust for left-wing morals and lifestyle, Iran and its proxy Hamas welcome the support of their woke Western allies whose encampments, rallies and disruptions are part of an important Iranian psychological operation against Israel to achieve a jihadist victory in Gaza and beyond.
Netanyahu, in his remarks to Congress, cited the U.S. Director of National Intelligence to confirm that “Iran is funding and promoting anti-Israel protests in America … to disrupt America.”
Iran’s Supreme Leader, in a recent letter to American university students, writes, “You have now formed a branch of the Resistance Front. ... The support and solidarity of your professors is a significant and consequential development.”
A hatred of Jews serves as a central underpinning of Islamist doctrine dedicated to creating a world caliphate. Islamic religious texts proclaim that Jews are evil “apes and pigs” and that salvation can only occur after the Jews are destroyed.
The Islamic State of Iran and its terror proxy Hamas launched its Oct. 7 attack hoping to fatally weaken the Jewish state and strike a blow against its sponsor, the “American Satan.” Remember, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini called his 1979 Islamic Revolution a fight “against the Western world.”
This woke-jihad coalition, an alliance of convenience to defeat mutual enemies, will continue as long as it is useful to each side. After that, the parties will turn on each other.
In his speech to a joint session of Congress, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu reminded us: “Our enemies are your enemies. Our fight is your fight. And our victory will be your victory.”
Netanyahu understands what’s at stake in the Middle East, on our campuses, in our cities, within our institutions and culture — and in this upcoming November election.
Do we?
