The biography of a professional athlete who, at 28, continues to reset standards and three tales of making order out of chaos constitute the nonfiction offerings in this week’s Newsmax Rising Bestsellers. Besides the biography, there is the recipe by a NASA insider of how the U.S. space program can do better, in light of its past disasters and near misses.

There is also one man’s efforts to wrest control of higher education from the “woke left” and another that offers a blueprint for doing the same for society as a whole. And the novel of the week is one that combines fast-paced action and science fiction with faith in God’s word.

Plunged (The Three Worlds),” by Shilo Creed (Tactical Press)

In this action-packed novel, the protagonist, a U.S. Navy SEAL, uses faith and the knowledge of God’s word, which he learned while in a spiritual dimension, to bring down a dystopian New World Order.

When a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ship cloaking device experiment temporarily disintegrates the SEAL’s body and plunges his consciousness into a terrifying world, DARPA scientists want to claim his body for experimental purposes, but are denied access by the nurse keeping him alive.

While that struggle is going on, the SEAL is learning things that will help him, his nurse, and earth’s population to escape from the tight grip of the NWO. “Wow!! Action packed book,” wrote Shonda Outlaw in her Amazon review “Thrilling! Combination of physical and spiritual worlds. The importance of studying God’s word is wonderfully explained. Love this book!!”  [Fiction]

Christian McCaffrey Biography: The Making Of A Football Legend,” by Dennis Kiser (Independently published)

An eight-year NFL veteran, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has clearly made the most of his natural gifts, winning the league’s 2023 Offensive Player Of the Year and becoming one of only three players in history to rush for 1,000 yards as well as catch 116 passes for another 1,000 receiving yards in the same season.

As a sophomore for the Stanford Cardinal, McCaffrey was named AP College Football Player of the Year. How did he become such a gridiron legend before 30? It turns out that the game is in his genes, and athletics is in his blood. His father is former NFL wide receiver and three-time Super Bowl-winner Ed McCaffrey, and his mother is former Stanford soccer player Lisa McCaffrey.  [Nonfiction]

Mission Out of Control,” by Dr. Charles J. Camarda (Headline Books Inc)

Author Charles Camarda argues that a lack of a research-driven culture at NASA has led to a mounting list of disasters and near-misses. Those disasters include the Apollo 1 fire, the Challenger explosion, and the Earth-re-enty breakup of Columbia. The ill-fated Apollo 13 explosion prevented what was supposed to have been the United States’ third moon landing, and most recently, the two U.S. Boeing Starliner astronauts who were expected to be in space for only a week, have been stranded for months and may finally be returning home in March.

Camarda, himself a retired NASA astronaut, lists these and other disasters and near-misses in the first half of the book. In the second half he explains how most if not all could have been prevented or at least minimized. “With first-hand insights from a NASA astronaut, this book is a must-read for anyone fascinated by innovation, problem-solving, and the relentless pursuit of excellence,” wrote AG for Amazon. It will leave you on the edge of your seat.”  [Nonfiction]

Storming the Ivory Tower: How a Florida College Became Ground Zero in the Struggle to Take Back Our Campuses,” by Richard Corcoran (Bombardier Books)

In recent years, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, America’s colleges and universities have eschewed classical education for ideological indoctrination. Instead of emphasizing the sciences, literature, and philosophy, they push diversity, equity and inclusion, critical race theory, and gender identity.

This is the story of how one man broke the progressive’s hold on higher education at the far left New College of Florida, and paved the way for its reform across America. “‘Storming the Ivory Tower’ is a fascinating and heartening read. It shows that a university can be freed of its bonds of DEI and social justice policies without being transformed into an ultra-conservative equivalent.

As an added bonus, the book has some fun stories, examples, and an abundance of wit.” wrote Leslie Eastman for Legal Insurrection. “I give the book five stars out of five, and recommend it to anyone with an interest in higher education policy…especially those in places to effect meaningful change.”   [Nonfiction]

Truth, Lies and Control: Finding Hope in an Upside-Down World,” by Michael A. Letts, with Don S. Otiz (Morgan James Faith)

While “Storming the Ivory Tower” describes the cancer that has infected higher education, “Truth, Lies and Control” analyzes how that same cancer has infected the whole of society and spread chaos in the process.

Long-held fundamental values and truths have collapsed, resulting in disorder and uncertainty. But this is not merely a historical “how did it happen” book; it’s also a “call to action” book, encouraging Americans to take back control and restore decency and logic to society. If we remain passive in the battleground to truth and ideas, society will only disintegrate further into chaos. [Nonfiction]
