Call New Orleans Incident What It Is: Islamist Attack

The first day of the second half of this decade got off to a heartbreaking start. In the Big Easy, New Year’s Eve 2024 revelry gave way to New Year’s Day 2025 horror.

The Bourbon Street car attack that killed at least 15 people is being investigated as a terrorist act.

Since the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York, the same pattern keeps repeating. Demands to “do something” encounter resistance from those unwilling to shake their ideological beliefs.

It is long past time for all Americans to start publicly stating what the pearl-clutchers refuse to acknowledge.

For starters, labeling the New Orleans attack “evil” and an “act of terrorism” isn’t good enough. The attacker was a radical Islamic terrorist.

The Biden administration banned mentioning “radical Islam” in any official government policy manuals. The Trump administration must reverse this insanity. Radical Islam, not climate change, is the world’s greatest global threat.

This means knocking down the straw man argument that any decent American anywhere is blaming all Muslims for the acts of radicalized Muslims. Americans know the difference between Jihadist Shamsud Din Jabbar and Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Outside of a few aging Boston Celtics fans, nobody sees Kareem Abdul Jabbar as a threat.

“Not all Muslims are terrorists” is as truthful as it is irrelevant. Most terror attacks are committed by Muslims inspired by a radicalized version of Islam.

Jews, Christians, conservatives, Republicans and Trump voters are not flying planes into towers, blowing up buildings, or in the case of New Orleans, ramming a vehicle into innocent people.

Timothy McVeigh and Eric Rudolph were not religious Christians, and their evil acts took place in the previous century. The Catholics and Protestants bombing each other in Northern Ireland stopped doing so 30 years ago. The only religion that currently has evil terrorist acts committed in its name on a regular basis is Islam.

This means the term “Islamophobia” needs to be retired. A phobia is an irrational fear. A fear of being murdered by radicalized Muslims is more than reasonable. People in New Orleans are the umpteenth example.

Islamophobia is a bullying term meant to intimidate people from calling out radical Islam.

Beyond the radical Islam issue is another uncomfortable truth. A segment of the American left still supports defunding the police.

It is long past time for Democrats to call out the “Defund the police” movement for what it has always been: a mind-numbingly stupid movement that makes people less safe. Most of the legislators pushing this toxic movement have taxpayer-funded armed security.

A significant number of Democrats from Vice President Kamala Harris on down distanced themselves from anti-police rhetoric in an election year. Now that the election is over, Americans will soon know how these politicians really feel.

Police officers are fleeing cities in droves, choosing alternatives ranging from retirement to private security. If Americans want safety, they need to push back hard against repeated efforts to demonize police officers.

President-elect Donald Trump has faced multiple assassination attempts. An assassin’s bullet missed Trump’s forehead only because he turned at the last moment.

The Secret Service had one job, and they failed spectacularly. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheadle was a former Pepsi executive who was hired based on her gender rather than her qualifications. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policies nearly cost Trump his life.

The Department of Justice and the FBI have spent the last few years trying to lock up January 6 Capitol breachers, many of whom committed misdemeanor trespassing. FBI Director Chris Wray insisted that the greatest terrorist threat came from conservative white men who own guns.

Attorney General Merrick Garland drafted the memo declaring Catholic school board meeting attendees a terrorist threat. Meanwhile, real terrorists are committing their acts with impunity.

Every moment targeting political opponents squanders the precious resources of time and money that are vital to stopping real terrorists.

Incoming Attorney General Pam Bondi needs to fumigate these agencies. Fire anyone and everyone who is unqualified or too ideologically biased to do the job honestly.

Call out radical Islam by name. Support police officers. Root out corrupt government intelligence officials. Eliminate all DEI programs in favor of hiring based on merit and ability.

To those offended, the God-given right of citizens to be safe and free is more important than coddling ideologically destructive ideas and people. From Manhattan to New Orleans to Las Vegas, my freedoms trump your feelings.
