Conservatives flummoxed as to why the radical left embraces so many policies antithetical to American values can find the answers in David Horowitz’s “The Radical Mind” (Humanix Books, 2024).
Horowitz explains why some schools and public libraries are educating elementary schoolchildren about LGBTQ, why elite colleges turn a blind eye to antisemitism and embrace Hamas, why Democrat-run major cities are welcoming illegal migrants, what’s behind no-cash bail, why the left resents personal achievements and entrepreneurs, and why the mainstream media portrays Antifa and Black Lives Matter as peaceful movements.
Essentially, Horowitz says, Democrats hate America and its individual freedoms. Liberals believe in the supremacy of the state and want to recast the nation entirely in their new vision. They view the Constitution as a “white supremacist” document, Horowitz says, that is evil because it was written by white men.
President Joe Biden’s opening of the border, the author believes, is an intentional act in the left’s goal of bankrupting our social services and education system to abolish America as we know it.
Biden wants to redistribute wealth based on skin color, Horowitz says, calling this — along with diversity, equity, and inclusion — “anti-white racism.” Biden and progressive Democrats are willing to give trillions to their donors and voters to keep power, adds The New York Times-bestselling author.
An important statistic backing this up, according to the author, is the $27.8 trillion the U.S. spent on anti-poverty programs between 1965 and 2016, resulting in Democrats controlling the nation’s biggest cities in the last 50-100 years, where, Horowitz notes, crime, unemployment, poverty, and out-of-wedlock births continue to plague communities at high rates.
As shocking as conservatives may find this, the author maintains, the left has sunk to moral depths and has “sinister intentions.”
Furthermore, Horowitz charges, Democrats have gone so far as to be pro-crime, justifying theft and lawlessness as reparations and redistribution of wealth.
Conservatives should also be mindful of how the left dominates our news, entertainment, music, and culture, the author warns, noting this strategy was used by Italian communist Antonio Gramsci in the 20th century.
Not only is media biased and corrupt, but, Horowitz believes, so is the government. He lays out his proof of this in a lengthy discussion of the coverup by U.S. intelligence agencies and the media of the incriminating evidence on Hunter Biden’s laptop.
To keep the American public in the dark about lucrative deals by the president’s son with Ukraine and China so that Biden would get elected in 2016, Horowitz reminds us:
“51 intelligence officials, including heads of the CIA and the Director of National Intelligence, signed a false statement declaring the laptop ‘Russian disinformation’ in order to elect his complicit father to the presidency. They did so knowing full well that the laptop was authentic. . . . Only after the election did they admit that the laptop and its contents were authentic.”
Making this disinformation even more scandalous, Horowitz says, was the fact that Biden won the election by 44,000 votes out of a total 159 million cast — or 0.027% of the vote.
Horowitz lays into Biden stoking inflation by spending trillions. He’s also not a fan of what he sees as the fallacy of dictating the U.S.’ switch from cars running on fossil fuels to electric vehicles.
What’s behind these ill-conceived moves to “pour fuel on the fires of inflation”? Horowitz says:
“The Biden Democrats, who have dumped trillions of dollars on an already heated economy, look on the United States Treasury as a bank that can be robbed in the interests of buying votes, accumulating power, and ushering in their new world.”
Biden’s policies — including canceling student debt, putting a moratorium on rent, and paying for illegal immigrants’ housing — are unabashed socialism, Horowitz explains, adding “socialism is theft.”
The “chief passion” and “sinister stupidity” of Biden, Bernie Sanders, chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, and other leading Democrats, Horowitz writes, “is hatred of the wealthy and of the economic system that makes wealth possible.”
Having painted such a bleak picture of the hard left that Democrats have taken in the last 15 years, Horowitz gives short shrift to how to resolve the war between those who love American freedom and those who believe in the unlimited power and authority of the state.
“The present battle for America’s soul will take generations to resolve,” Horowitz contends.
Defenders of the nation must, then, focus on family, religion, equality, and the original intentions of our founders.
To that end, “The Radical Mind” has been published in a presidential election year. Voting for a candidate who can restore fiscal and moral order is as good a place to start as any.
