The U.S. Agriculture Department has directed employees to remove any mentions of climate change from its public websites, reports ABC News.
In an email sent Thursday to employees, USDA Director of Digital Communications Peter Rhee said staff should "identify and archive or unpublish any landing pages focused on climate change" by 3 p.m. EST Friday and track the content in an attached Excel spreadsheet for review.
The USDA's Department of Communications "will review the submitted materials and make determinations on next steps," he wrote.
President Donald Trump in his first days in office included a flurry of executive orders with implications for Earth's climate and environment.
He signed an executive order directing the United States to withdraw from the landmark Paris climate agreement, declared an emergency via executive order amid a promise to "drill, baby, drill" and declared an energy emergency states that the Endangered Species Act cannot be an obstacle to energy development.
He also promised to eliminate former President Joe Biden's "electric vehicle mandate."
