Joe Biden's Absences at Summits Disturbing

On June 15-16, Switzerland will host a high-level summit to achieve peace in Ukraine.

The summit, which was organized upon request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will feature the participation of over 100 nations and 75 world leaders.

The agenda includes important topics, such as energy and nuclear security, food security, the release of prisoners of war, and the repatriation of deported children.

According to recent reports, U.S. President Joe Biden is planning to attend a fundraiser with Hollywood actors George Clooney and Julia Roberts in Los Angeles, rather than participate in the Summit on Peace for Ukraine.

By doing so, Biden would prioritize his presidential campaign over the global interests of achieving world peace.

Russia, which was not invited to the summit, has been accused of undermining the meeting.

A Biden no show would allow Putin to accomplish his objective.

Since the beginning of Russia’s war in Ukraine, the United States spent over 100 billion dollars to aid Ukraine, and over 3 million people have been internally displaced in the country, causing a humanitarian crisis of global proportion.

A positive resolution of the war in Ukraine has been a top priority for the United Nations and the international community.

In case of a direct conflict between NATO and Russia, the war in Ukraine has the potential of evolving into a world war.

President Biden is scheduled to attend the G7 summit in Italy, which will take place on June 13-15, so he could easily fly to Switzerland after the G7 to attend the Summit on Peace.

Unlike the G7 summit, which is attended by seven countries (plus the European Union and Turkey, which was invited this year), the Summit on Peace will be attended by over 100 countries, offering a better opportunity to achieve peace in Ukraine.

This would not be the first time that President Biden has been absent for a high level summit.

In September 2023, he missed the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the East Asia Summit, both of which were held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In November 2022, President Biden did not attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders meeting in Thailand, allowing Chinese leader Xi Jinping to hold center stage at the meeting.

The participation of the U.S. president in these high-level summits is essential to the U.S. demonstrating its commitment to the region.

President Biden should give higher priority to the foreign interests affecting the nation over his personal re-election efforts.
