Trump's Trust Rating High in Ukraine

By    |   Tuesday, 10 December 2024 09:11 AM EST

More than 44% of Ukrainians say they have confidence in President-elect Donald Trump, numbers that are much higher than in all other European countries, according to a new survey.

The numbers were revealed in a survey commissioned by the New Europe Center and likely reflect the country's expectations of a more decisive policy on Ukraine from the Trump administration or hopes on his promises to end the war, Russian state publication Pravda reported Tuesday.

Trump on Sunday called for an immediate ceasefire and for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to end "the madness" of the war.

His comments came just hours after he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris for their first face-to-face talks since the election.

The survey, commissioned by the New Europe Center, showed Ukraine's numbers on trusting Trump are higher than Hungary's figures, where 37% said they trust the president-elect.

Meanwhile, 16% of respondents in France said they trust Trump, while 30% in the U.K. agreed.

The survey was conducted by Info Sapiens for the New Europe Center from Nov. 15-27 among 1,000 respondents and the results have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

The trust ratings also reflect the Ukrainian's disappointment in President Joe Biden, who fell the most in their trust ratings along with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

However, the New Europe Center last year asked whether Ukrainians sympathized more with Biden or Trump, and at that time, Biden scored 78.1% on sympathy, with 10.1% favoring Trump.
