GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump doesn't come across as a Republican when he attacks former president George W. Bush's response to the 9/11 attacks, Bush's vice president, Dick Cheney, says.
"He sounds like a liberal Democrat to me," Cheney said Monday on Fox News Channel's
"Special Report."
The
former vice president brushed aside Trump's claims that the Bush administration was warned about an attack before 9/11 or that the Bush White House lied about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction.
"On the question of WMD, that was thoroughly investigated by the Robb-Silberman Commission. They found no evidence to support that," Cheney said. "On the notion that the president failed to act before 9/11, to stop it, we had no actionable intelligence at that point. … There was nothing we could have done, and we had no intelligence to suggest there was a general threat."
Trump, Cheney said, does not understand the facts and has spent no time learning about them.
"I know a little bit about it," he added. "I was in the White House bunker all day. … I didn't see Donald Trump there. I've never seen him involved in any way that would lead me to believe that he had any firsthand or practical experience about it."
