Former Vice President Dick Cheney shot down GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump's latest
proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the country, saying it goes against the country's principles.
"I think this whole notion that we can just say, 'No more Muslims,' just ban a whole religion, goes against everything we stand for and believe in," Cheney said Monday on Hugh Hewitt's radio show.
"My ancestors got here because they were Puritans," Cheney said.
Still, the former vice president admitted, the United States faces a serious problem trying to ensure no Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists slip in among the Syrian refugees being taken in.
"You've got to set up a vetting process," he said.
"Safe zones" inside Syria seem like a better solution, Cheney said.
