President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Ukraine has not been grateful for American efforts related to the war with Russia even as U.S. weapons continue to flow and Europe keeps buying Russian oil.
"UKRAINE 'LEADERSHIP' HAS EXPRESSED ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS, AND EUROPE CONTINUES TO BUY OIL FROM RUSSIA. THE USA CONTINUES TO SELL MASSIVE $AMOUNTS OF WEAPONS TO NATO, FOR DISTRIBUTION TO UKRAINE," Trump said in a Truth Social post as U.S., Ukrainian and European officials met in Geneva for talks on a draft plan presented by Washington to end the war.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Sunday he expects the peace process between Russia and Ukraine to move forward, but that he had not discussed with Trump a Thanksgiving deadline for Ukraine to sign onto a U.S. peace plan that cedes more territory to Russia.
Trump said on Friday that he expected Ukraine to sign onto the plan by Thursday's Thanksgiving holiday. The U.S. has warned Ukraine it could curb military assistance if it does not sign, Reuters has reported.
"At the end of the day, it's going to be a decision with the Ukrainians," Bessent told NBC's "Meet the Press" program.
