Michael Hurd - Biography


Michael J. Hurd, Ph.D., LCSW, LISW is a psychotherapist, life coach and author with a private practice based in Charleston, South Carolina. His cognitive-behavioral methodology is straightforward and solution focused; starting in the here and now and setting a course of action to achieve clients’ objectives in the most realistic way possible.

Dr. Hurd graduated Phi Beta Kappa at Catholic University in Washington D.C., earned his master’s degree at University of Maryland and his Ph.D. (with distinction) in psychology at Saybrook University in California.

He is the author of "Bad Therapy, Good Therapy (and How to Tell the Difference)," "Grow Up America" (both Living Resources Press, Washington, D.C., 2011 and 2000, respectively), and "Effective Therapy" (Dunhill Publishing, New York, 1997). His books are available at his website, www.drhurd.com, where he also publishes the popular online column, "The Daily Dose of Reason."

Dr. Hurd’s newspaper columns are published weekly in the Delaware Wave and Delaware Coast Press (both Gannett publications). Hurd’s writings have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Newsday, Chicago Tribune, Time Magazine, USA Today and Forbes magazine, just to name a few. He has been quoted in and/or appeared on over 30 radio shows/podcasts (including Rush Limbaugh and Larry Elder), on Newsmax TV, and frequently guest hosts on wgmd.com, The Talk of Delmarva.
