The Biden-Harris White House wants to revive an Obama-era policy on zoning laws.
It gives the federal government undue influence over local property rights. It sounds boring, but it's very important, and potentially, could impact your neighborhood.
This is part of their $2.5 trillion dollar "infrastructure" package. The allegation from Democrats is that zoning laws, and single-family homes are... like everything else these days...racist.
It's amazing that they can't get any bi-partisan support, while calling everyone racist all the time.
According to a recent Reuters article, Biden seeks to ease housing shortage with $5 billion 'carrot, no stick' approach. The article states, "The $5 billion plan could inject the White House into a debate pitting older homeowners against younger workers seeking to gain a foothold in the most expensive U.S. cities."
The idea is to "...change zoning laws that restrict many neighborhoods to single-family homes."
"It's an enormous step forward…very few politicians have taken the next step to propose something really meaningful to change the system," so says Richard Kahlenberg.
The Reuters article says he's "a housing expert" at the Century Foundation, which is a progressive think tank.
Reuters also highlights the fact that, "Zoning laws were rare in the United States until 1917. That's when the Supreme Court (Buchanan v. Warley) struck down laws that prevented Black people from buying property in white neighborhoods. In response, local governments started setting minimum lot sizes. Making it almost impossible to build low-income housing and apartment buildings in many neighborhoods."
Are we supposed to believe that, in America in 2021 - zoning laws are racist?
Really?
Who are the racists?
A University of Pennsylvania Business School study that shows "coastal cities including New York and San Francisco - have increased (zoning laws) the most since 2006."
The other top cities in America for restrictive zoning laws include: Seattle, L.A., Washington, D.C., and Philly.
Progressive strongholds.
Liberals like their zoning laws and single-family homes where they live.
They just don't want them in the suburbs where you live.
The Reuters article also praises --wait for it-- Minneapolis and Portland Oregon for making "a similar changes" to the Biden-Harris zoning policy "for urban areas in those cities."
So, as we are watching those two cities being hollowed out right now, we're supposed to emulate the policies of those cities?
At the same time, we are also seeing one of the BLM co-founders, Patrisse Khan-Cullors, buy a $1.4 million home in a mostly white L.A. neighborhood.
That's just part of a bigger $3 million dollar real estate portfolio.
Drawing criticism - even from BLM protestors in New York on Monday.I thought a grassroots movement about change is not about making money.
Still, the progressive left and the Biden-Harris administration are using zoning laws and race to help them consolidate power.
They think we are all stupid, especially conservatives.
They truly believe that if you're not with the left on zoning laws or anything else, then you are less than them.
Take a listen to White House Press Secretary Jenn Psaki and how she talks about conservatives when discussing vaccine reluctance, "We've run PSA on deadliest catch, NASCAR and Country Music TV... we are looking for ways to get directly connected to white conservative communities."
Then stop lying to us.
And stop calling conservatives racist every time you want to push a new policy.
It's really that simple.
