Donald Trump is bombastic, arrogant, and he can borderline on being childish.
He makes divisive statements that rile up people on both sides of the aisle.
His supporters like his ability to say what he wants without a filter, and his critics think of him as a threat to our country.
But Donald Trump has a right to say what he wants because he has free speech just like any other American.
Blaming Donald Trump for the theatrics at his events is silly.
Trump has not helped in putting this fire out, and it can be argued that he has fanned the flames by longing for a time when hecklers would be beaten up.
There was one incident of a Trump supporter taking a cheap shot at a protester, but Trump’s hecklers have more to blame for the violence and disruptions at his rallies than the candidate himself.
He has a right to speak without being interrupted every 10 seconds. If you hate what he stands for, then peacefully protest outside the building.
The media will cover you, but if you are going to cause a huge commotion and try to break up an event, then you are only hurting your own cause. The heckling and limited incidents of violence at Trump rallies are only fueling his candidacy.
This is very easy for Trump to frame as liberals and the media elites trying to silence a voice of the people — who is beholden to no one.
Silencing conservatives and Republicans is nothing new over the last decade.
A prime example is on college campuses where there have been a number of commencement speakers that had to be cancelled because they did not follow hard left ideology.
The students and faculty threw a tantrum when Condoleeza Rice was announced to give a commencement address at Rutgers University, due to her Iraq War stance.
She canceled so she would not be a distraction.
Christine Lagarde, the IMF chief, withdrew due to an uproar because of the IMF’s role in Third World countries.
You don’t have to be a card carrying Republican to be shunned . . . you just have to think differently than the herd of liberal thought.
The most glaring example is the cancellation of women’s rights activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali at Brandies University. This was because her position on Shariah towards women was critical.
Her invitation was revoked due to the fact that she was not tolerant of abuse, despite the fact that she is Muslim and underwent genital mutilation because she is a woman.
To give this some perspective, my wife, daughter, and I met a World War II vet this past weekend who stormed the beaches of Normandy at age 19.
I would be embarrassed and ashamed to explain how current intellectuals are limiting the freedom he fought so hard for. College campuses used to stand for bastions of openness to all ideas.
The college experience was meant to open your mind to new perspectives and enrich your own education through a process of understanding the person you want to be by learning about views that differ from your own.
Now, campuses have become a haven for safe spaces where speech that has perceived micro-aggressions is not tolerated.
Conservative thought is a micro-aggression, make no mistake about it. The crazies are officially running the insane asylum.
This brings us back to Trump.
He has not called for violence, but his supporters like him because they are angry with the status quo. Opposing Trump has also driven people to anger.
Trump being forced to cancel a speech in Chicago due to a threat of violence by protesters should give everyone pause.
Many pundits blame Trump for daring to speak in such a liberal city and liberal college.
Last I checked, Donald Trump has a right to speak anywhere he wants as long as he follows local ordinances. Trump’s retort to these protesters is accurate.
Imagine if this was Trump supporters who were disrupting Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders?
The media would be apoplectic over Trump and conservatives in general; but liberal protesters who act foolishly get a free pass.
The First Amendment guarantees everyone free speech.
It is in place to protect speech that you may not be comfortable with.
Donald Trump says things that are not presidential, and it should make people think hard about voting for him.
Giving a pass to those who try to take away his right to speak and assemble is not American. It’s foolish, and it only serves to drive more people to the message of those being silenced.
The best heckling happens at the ballot box.
