In a surprising speech, Majority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. urged new elections in Israel, suggesting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not up to the task of leading his country. President Biden embraced Schumer's speech.
But there is something much more sever, if not ominous, in the New York Democrat's speech.
President Biden has come under fierce attack from the extreme left-wing of the Democratic Party. Let's not forget, this is happening in a presidential election year.
Biden fears the vote of the still-undecided electorate.
This in spite of the fact that the nation's 46th president won solid victories in the Democratic primaries.
Thus, it's far from clear how threatening this year’s undecided vote is for Biden, according to top data experts like Nate Silver and others.
Additionally, Joe Biden has been criticized not just because the war in Israel but for other reasons too. The Biden campaign is scared as current polls give his Republican opponent, Donald Trump, a slight advantage.
Part of the undecided and progressive sector of the Democratic party that presses those like Schumer, wishes not only to secure a permanent cease-fire, which would keep Hamas in charge of Gaza, but also to stop or reduce military aid to Israel.
Is what Israel has done so atypical?
A nation suffers a deadly attack, like it did on Oct. 7, 2023, and it's supposed to remain idle? Israel has rightfully deployed its military to destroy an evil enemy.
However, as the war unfolded, Israel agreed to negotiate with Hamas through mediators.
This was successful only temporarily, in late November of 2023.
Now, a militarily weakened Hamas wants Israel to release hundreds of Hamas terrorists and force it to engage in an immediate and complete withdrawal from Gaza.
It's worth remembering that Israel agreed to four ceasefires with Hamas between 2009 and 2021. Hamas' response?
Repeatedly breaching them, then commencing another round of war.
Of note, progressives refuse to understand that Hamas’ survival could encourage terrorist groups with global reach to attack the West.
The nature of those attacks could potentially be like those of Sept. 11, 2001 (9/11); the attack on commuter trains in Madrid, Spain on March 11, 2004, and in those in London, England on July 7, 2007.
Moving forward to just a few days ago, the ISIS terrorist attacks taking place on March 22, in Moscow are no less a dire sign for the West as well.
Biden opposed an Israeli operation in Rafah where four Hamas battalions still operate.
This may well be the reason (or one of them) that the U.S abstained from vetoing UN Security Council Resolution calling for a cease-fire.
It remains undeniable that a significant portion of the population in Gaza suffers.
However, the idea that Israel is solely responsible for this is now well-embedded in the minds of many globally, inclusive of the American people.
Schumer aids and abets this fallacy.
This has served to encourage European Union Foreign Minister Joseph Borrel to accuse Israel of starving Gazans.
Israel has consistently provided humanitarian aid but Hamas has stolen much of those supplies, often reselling them to the Gazan people and making a profit for themselves. Israel also proposed the creation of a U.S — run artificial port to increase the humanitarian assistance to Gaza which the United States.
It is true that Israeli truck inspections slows down the aid’s arrival. However, to accuse Israel of intentionally starving Gazans is blood libel.
Often the mainstream media tends to accept and spread information distributed by Hamas institutions, such as the Ministry of Health. Likewise, these media outlets often hire local journalists working on behalf of Hamas.
Experts have seriously questioned reports on the number of Palestinian casualties. Even if indeed 30,000 Gazans died, considering that such number includes n 13,000 Hamas terrorists, the ratio of civilian casualties per combatant is at most one combatant per less than 2.5 civilians. The average civilian ratio in urban wars is 1 to 9.
No U.S agency has bothered to challenge or investigate Hamas’ reports.
. Spreading misinformation incites more hate against Israel and the Jewish people at a time of rampant global antisemitism.
Systematic anti-Israel propaganda have also affected American politicians.
About a year before the war started, the chair of the Congressional Democratic Progressive Caucus, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., referred to Israel as a "racist state."
Comparatively recently, in the United States, Sen. Chris Van Holen, D-Md., has led a group of senators urging President Biden to suspend arms supply to Israel unless Israel stops restricting the delivery of food and medicine into Gaza.
These allegations only play into the dogmatic belief surrounding Israel’s wartime role.
A building block of inaccuracies have spread globally, the American media, and mainstream sectors of the Democratic party.
Schumer's and others' approach and stance are unsuitable for America
Why?
Global powers such as China and Russia see us throwing an ally under the bus.
China and Russia have not handed over allies such as Iran, Belarus, or North Korea.
Current U.S. policy in this regard cannot possibly be viewed as wise.
How long will it be before we pay a steep, if not unaffordable price?
