In the aftermath of U.S. President Joe Biden’s re-election announcement, the results of our just completed national poll of 1,000 likely voters (+/-3.1% at the 95% confidence interval), show that currently former U.S. President Trump receives his best results for the year to date. The poll was done between April 24 and 28.
Trump remains the front-runner.
As predicted in our March poll, the Joe Biden-Alvin Bragg indictment backfired, and Trump has increased his lead over the Republican field, holding his general election lead over Biden.
Also, the Biden re-election announcement was anemic.
Among potential Democratic presidential challengers in the primary, Biden gets only 25% of the vote. Michelle Obama receives 15%, Kamala Harris 8%, Bernie Sanders 8%, Pete Buttigieg 5%, and all others less.
Biden’s best primary is no primary.
That’s what his campaign is working toward.
The highest percent of Republican primary voters to date this year, 65%, want Trump to run again.
Now that he is running again, among Republican primary voters, they would support him 79% to 18%.
This gives him more room to grow.
In the multicandidate field former-President Trump now receives 52% and Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., has fallen to 16%.
All other candidates are in single digits.
Since January, Trump’s lead over the field has increased from 12 points to 36 points.
One on one, former-President Trump beats Gov. DeSantis 67% to 26%.
Since January Trump’s lead over DeSantis has increased from 11 points to 41 points.
Although Gov. DeSantis has yet to formally announce, the more he positions to run against Trump, the more Trump’s base returns to him and DeSantis’ lead diminishes.
In the national popular vote, Trump leads Biden 47% to 43%.
This would be an electoral landslide for Trump.
The generic ballot for Congress is almost identical to Trump’s vote total at 47% Republican to 42% Democratic.
Looking at the issue trends, it’s clear that Trump could do even better against Joe Biden:
- 70% of all voters say the country is on the wrong track. Only 23% say right direction. The undecided voters for president say the country is on the wrong track 74% to 4%.
- 55% say the economy is already in recession.
- 68% say the economy is getting worse, and only 26% say it’s getting better.
- 85% say that they have been negatively impacted by inflation, including 44% who say they are struggling to keep up and afford basic necessities.
- The majority, 55%, disapprove of the job Joe Biden is doing. Only 42% approve. The undecided voters for president disapprove 68% to 21%.
Economic issues remain the most important concerns, 48%, including 28% who say inflation.
Another 30% cite social issues as their most important issue with 10% citing Social Security and Medicare and only 5% saying abortion. Another 14% cited security issues, including 5% who said immigration and 4% who said crime.
As an example of the unpopular policies that President Biden continues to pursue, only 7% of all voters say that they own an electric vehicle, and only 32% of all voters support the Biden administration’s regulations to eliminate gas powered cars, trucks or SUVs and force consumers to buy electric vehicles.
Some 86% of all voters, say the decision to buy a gas powered car, truck or SUV or an electric vehicle should be left to the consumer.
Only 8% say the government should decide.
Without a doubt, Trump is running a determined and focused campaign. However, so far his major opponents, President Biden and Gov. DeSantis are proving to be his best advocates to be elected again.
