When discussing former U.S. President Donald J. Trump, some Republicans and conservatives state that they like Trump's policies and accomplishments, but they don't like his Truth Social/Twitter posts, comments, or style.
If Mr. Trump becomes the Republican nominee, it's essential that these individuals vote for him. It is these very votes which may be the difference in whether our 45th chief executive, or a Democrat assumes the Oval Office.
The first general way to persuade "Never Trumpers" to vote for Trump is to have them focus on what they like about him: his policies.
"Never Trumpers" need to be reminded of the obvious: if a Democrat is elected, then virtually little or no chance exists that Trump's policies will be implemented.
Rather, the Biden policies of the past three years, and their ramifications, will continue.
"Never Trumpers" must decide which is more important:
A.) Having Trump's policies but also having what they dislike about Trump, or B.) Not having Trump's policies but not having what they dislike about Trump.
It's likely that, once put to this test, "Never Trumpers" will favor scenario "A."
The flip side of this approach is to have "Never Trumpers" consider the negative consequences of having the Democratic Party nominee winning the presidency in 2024.
This comparison should be a slam-dunk for voting for President Trump.
A Democratic Party nominee almost certainly means policies which will lead to a low gross domestic product (GDP) and a poor economy, increased inflation, higher prices for gas and food, higher interest rates, surging crime, escalating illegal immigration, more deaths by fentanyl, continued deterioration of public education, increased division in America, greater demonization and marginalization of Republicans, a weakening of the United States on the global stage, expansion of current wars, as well as increased chances for more.
Many "Never Trumpers" vote for a third-party candidate or do not vote at all as a "protest" against the Republican nominee.
The goal of this "protest" is probably to send a message to the GOP to select a nominee with whom they agree, or the nominee will not receive their votes.
It could also reflect their hope that, if a Democrat wins the presidency and does a poor job, then Americans will realize that they should vote for Republicans in the future.
This protest strategy is beyond problematic. It means, then, the nation will be forced to deal with the consequences of the Democratic president for another four years.
In these years, significant damage can occur to the country.
Programs may be enacted and implemented which would be difficult to repeal.
"Never Trumpers" should ask themselves if the second terms of the de facto President Clinton and President Obama worked out well for the United States and if it would have been better to have had a Republican in office.
Translation? Consider the dangers of a second Biden term!
A vote for a third-party candidate or not voting at all actually helps the Democratic nominee because the Republican candidate does not receive that vote.
The candidate with the most vote wins the election, so, as the saying goes, every vote counts. It is possible that, in 2020, votes of "Never Trumpers" enabled Joe Biden to win states with close votes.
For example, in Georgia, Joe Biden's margin of victory was 12,670 votes.
The Libertarian Candidate, Jo Jorgenson received 62,138 votes. It is also likely that some Republicans in Georgia did not vote at all. Georgia, as well as other states with similar voting patterns in 2020, demonstrate the importance of the votes of "Never Trumpers."
The most important question for "Never Trumpers" is whether they would prefer a Democrat or Donald Trump as president from 2024-2028.
For, hopefully, those "Never Trumpers," with painful memories of the past three years still fresh in their minds, the decision to abandon petty disagreements with Donald Trump will be an easy one, translating to votes returning one of the greatest presidents in U.S. history to office.
